yet another book from CB types...

I enjoyed Karan Bajaj's first book... umm only because though i don't remember the plot, the book as such has many memories associated with it... For instances, PK Junior and I had dissected the book and the dumbo still has a text message I sent regarding the lead character of "Keep of the grass"...

So it was more of memories associated when i picked Karan's second book "Johnny Gone Down"

Priced at Rs.99, one can say it is worth every 99 rupees you paid for it, NOT... Not a light read but not heavy either...

It is a story of a regular guy, okay not so regular, who falls into one too many wrong turns... Our Lead is Nikhil Arya who falls prey of an unseen revolution during a vacation he takes with his friend... Nikhil is an ideal character prefered by all Indian authors i.e. Chetan Bhagat kinds.. An IIT Graduate doing his post graduation in MIT and holds a job with NASA... SIGH!!! Get over with it guys... This is just way too ideal...

A vacation at Cambodia turns into a disaster and like all Heroes, our Nikhil sacrifices his passport for his friend and gets into foreign miscreants' hands... Trouble has just started baby... after two years under captivity he escapes only to become a Buddhist monk.... A Buddhist monk who falls in love with the first female he comes in contact with... correct me if i am wrong, the last i read was Buddhist monks are taught about abstinence and are taught to forgot all carnal and worldly pleasures... ahem!!

The love makes him mad that he walks out of the Monastery (is Monkery a word??) and joins a drug-gansta (yeah wtf.. don't ask me) Starts as a mere accountant and goes on to partner the drug lord and becomes a drug lord himself... meets his love again gets married and runs away again... why?? at this point i just stopped bothering... he runs away every time so that the other party will be happy, without trouble yabbity-yabbity-yab...

this time he flies to USA and finds a job as a software-game-builder... splutter-splutter-splutter... a mechanical engineer learns software codes and designs a 3D game... oh the Blasphemy!!!! oh so well he gets successful here too, only to give it up and fly down to India (oh, Mother India.. ye jo desh hai mera, swadesh hai mera)

ummm, where was i? oh yeah India... i am not even going to explain what happens in India except at the end of all, he meets his old friend from MIT, gets back his wife and kid and settles down with the huge profit he made with his 3D gaming...

Sigh... now where this ideal life... i am willing to give up my whole  career to run around in the forests of Cambodia, slums of Brazil and homeless centers of Boston...

Rat's Rating: 2/5
Two Cent: Duh.. Don't even bother... if you really want to read, order via landmarkonthenet which gives away the book for mere Rs.67/-
